A passion for professional development and unrivalled people skills have been the driving force behind Alistair Main’s successful career at Duncan & Toplis. Now, his new role as Head of Assurance will see him use his abilities to better leverage the skills and resources of a united Assurance team.
15 years ago after finishing university, Alistair began his career at Duncan & Toplis. He joined the Boston office as a junior member of the auditing team and during this time, he continued his professional development to become a chartered accountant.
After four years in Boston, Alistair was promoted to supervisor at the Spalding office and over the next decade, he established himself within the practice as a strong auditor, progressing into a managerial role and then becoming a company director.
“I work on a wide range of clients, which is something I really enjoy about my role. I could be speaking to a plumber with his own small, independent business one minute and working with multi-million pound companies the next.
I’m passionate about being there for all of my clients, offering critical support when it’s needed and offering advice that can help their business thrive.”
Alistair’s new role will see him unite the audit teams from across Duncan & Toplis under one umbrella to create more efficient processes. By putting common systems across the practice in place, he will enable the audit team to confidently provide a high-level and consistent service.
Together, the team will continue to conduct statutory audits to ensure client accounts are correct, carry out due diligence, forensic accounting and much more.
“The auditing services we provide to our clients gives them peace of mind when they buy a new business or reassurance that the figures that are being presented are correct.
“Our audit teams have been separated by location in the past, so moving forward, we will collaborate as one team to integrate our industry knowledge and technical skills to deliver unparalleled insights and results to our clients.”
Alistair’s experience, technical abilities and people skills stood out when he interviewed for the role. He is also passionate about continuing his professional development and discovering new ways to work more efficiently and effectively. With better use of technology, he is dedicated to creating a more consistent approach to client work.
Alistair has demonstrated his ability to lead and manage a range of teams and is a recognised and trustworthy voice for clients.
“It’s important to work collaboratively and we’re very lucky at Duncan & Toplis that we have such a wide variety of talent within the business. I’m looking forward to leading a united Assurance team forward, building on their skills and delivering excellent results for our clients.”
